Crawfordston Cottage (Maybole) sleeps a maximum of 2 people.

This spacious , traditional cottage is set in a tranquil, idyllic rural location with open countryside all around and yet the coastal town of Ayr is only a short drive. It is an ideal base to explore this beautiful area rich in places to visit and things to do. Nearby is Culzean Castle and Country Park, designated by architect Robert Adam and is one of his finest buildings. It sits dramatically on the cliff top looking across to Arran and Ailsa Craig. Inland is Dumfries House with its unique collection of Chippendale furniture, the sumptuous interiors have remained unchanged for 250 years. There are over twenty other castles in the area, many are romantic ruins such as Dunduff Castle in Dunure and Turnberry Castle believed to be the birthplace of Robert the Bruce. Further north is Dundonald Castle, built in 1371 and used as a royal residence for the Stewart kings for 150 years. Ayrshire is home to Scotland's bard, Robert Burns, and the award winning birthplace museum in Alloway by Ayr hosts events throughout the year. Nearby is Burns' Cottage, Alloway Auld Kirk and Brig O'Doon. Soutar Johnnie's cottage is located a few miles further south in the village of Kirkoswald, also home to the Whisky Experience, a specialist shop offering tasting evenings for novices and aficionados. The beautiful Isle of Arran is an easy day trip with ferries leaving from Ardrossan or, during the summer, step aboard the Waverley, the world's last sea going paddle steamer, for an unforgettable trip.
There are some lovely walks along the quiet roads by the cottage with great views across to the hills and in the nearby village of Straiton there is an extensive network of signposted walks of varying lengths offering excellent opportunities to spot birds and wildlife. The Galloway Forest Park has miles of trails perfect for exploring on bicycle. Fishing is available on local rivers, lochs and fisheries plus sea fishing from Aye or Girvan. Golfers are well catered for in Ayrshire with championship courses such as Troon, Turnberry and Prestwick close by but there are also many challenging, smaller courses in Maybole, Dailly, Girvan and Ayr. Horse riding along the beach at Maidens or along the banks of the Doon on Craigengillan Estate is a great way to experience the stunning scenery. Craigengillan also has a superb path network including the gorge walk at Ness Glen; magical at all times of the year. Situated on a hilltop is the recently opened Scottish Dark Sky Observatory, the only publicly accessible observatory in a Dark Sky Park. After enjoying a great day out discovering and experiencing the delights of Ayrshire, Crawfordston Cottage is the perfect place to relax. The detached cottage gets the sun all day and evening, formerly a farm workers home it has been carefully modernised to retain original features but with all the comforts of modern living. It is well equipped with a good selection of books, local maps, games including boules, binoculars and information on local attractions.

This beautifully appointed single storey cottage with its delightful sea and countryside views is over 100 years old and has lovely feature stone walls reflecting its history. As its name suggests, Gardener's Cottage was the former residence of the gardener of Ardmillan Castle located just over a couple of miles from Girvan in Ayrhsire. 400 years ago the castle was described thus, “The Castle of Ardmillan looked like a palace with its deep cut ditch, its large courtyard, its capacities for siege-standing, its early pears and apples.”? Originally a fishing port, Girvan is now a small seaside resort and during the summer it is possible to sail around local landmarks on the lovely paddle steamer, the Waverley.

Situated on the Isle of Cumbrae, this detached house is located just 200 yards from the sandy beach, with tropical palms fronting the promenade and yachts moored in the sheltered bay. Explore the charm of Millport with its cafés, shops and bars. Cumbrae attracts seals, migrant birds from around the world and the flora on the island is equally varied. A visit to the island's Marine Research Station with a museum and aquarium is a must. With an 11 mile flat coastal road around the island, it is ideal for cycling and walking, with many opportunities for picnics. In addition, there are many walks over the hills in the centre of the island, with fantastic views of the Clyde Estaury and surrounding islands of Arran and Bute. The island has an 18 hole golf course, a bowling club with three greens and both a full sized football pitch and a 5-a-side astra turf pitch. There are two play areas for children under 12 and a National Water Sports Centre for the water sport enthusiast. The island also hosts the smallest cathedral in Scotland, as well as a house with the smallest front in the Uk.
